Line Terminating Equipment (LTE).


Part 1: Metal cabinet (rack) holding two dual optical line terminals (LTEs) and alarm and power distribution box. At the front of the cabinet is a glass door with a lock and key. The door opens to reveal the two line terminals and alarm and power distribution box. At the top of the cabinet, covered when the door is closed, is a sticker which reads, "CABINET SERIAL No. 11854".

Fixed inside the cabinet at the top is the alarm and power distribution box with a cream-coloured front panel. Printed on this in black is "ALCATEL / NEW ZEALAND". There is a row of small green switches and a series of four lights arranged in a square in both top corners; the lights on the proper right of the box are red and the lights on the proper left are yellow. Printed in black in the centre is "T8 ALARM & POWER DISTN / 19171 / (440553)".

A rectangular line terminal unit is fixed beneath this in the cabinet, also with a cream-coloured front panel. Printed in black in the top proper right corner is, "TSO-6 / DUAL OPTICAL / LINE TERMINAL /429358”. Printed in black at the proper left of the unit is “ALCATEL / STC AUSTRALIA”. Below this at a series of small light, buttons arranged as a telephone keypad, jacks and switches. Below this is a cavity holding a cream-coloured telephone handset. A small, printed sheet of Orderwire Operating Instructions, to originate and answer a call, are stuck to the unit to the left of the keypad. At the lower proper right is a yellow sticker reading “CAUTION / EQUIPMENT CONTAINS STATIC / SENSITIVE DEVICES / OBSERVE HANDLING PRECAUTIONS.” Two yellow fibre optic cables are attached to the unit on the proper right side and extend down to a shelf in the bottom of the cabinet. The front of the unit lifts off, revealing 4 circuit boards (cards) inserted vertically, labelled “34M OPTICAL”, “SUPERVISORY”, TELEMETRY” and “PWR/ALM OPT”.

The second rectangular line terminal unit is fixed beneath the first, in the middle of the cabinet, also with a cream-coloured front panel. Printed in black in the top proper right corner is, "TSO-6 / DUAL OPTICAL / LINE TERMINAL /429358”. Printed in black at the proper left of the unit is “ALCATEL / STC AUSTRALIA”. Below this at a series of small light, buttons arranged as a telephone keypad, jacks and switches. Below this is a cavity holding a cream-coloured telephone handset. A sticker in the centre of the unit has a yellow triangular caution image, below which on a green background is printed “INVISIBLE / LASER RADIATION / DO NOT STARE / INTO BEAM.” At the lower proper right is a yellow sticker reading “CAUTION / EQUIPMENT CONTAINS STATIC / SENSITIVE DEVICES / OBSERVE HANDLING PRECAUTIONS.” Two yellow fibre optic cables are attached to the unit on the proper right side and extend down to a shelf in the bottom of the cabinet. The front of the unit lifts off, revealing 4 circuit boards (cards) inserted vertically, labelled “34M OPTICAL”, “SUPERVISORY”, TELEMETRY” and “PWR/ALM OPT”.

Below the three units, two black metal shelves are fixed into the cabinet. The upper shelf is empty, the loose yellow fibre optic cables sit on the lower shelf. A dark grey collar around the bottom of the unit conceals wheels that allow the cabinet to be moved. The rear panel of the cabinet is a hinged door, secured with a lock. The panels on either side of the cabinet are removable, secured on each with two locks, one in each top corner. At the bottom of the rear and side panels are vents. The roof of the cabinet has vents at the front and rear.

Part 2: Separate from the cabinet and contents is a coil of yellow fibre optic cable with connectors (metal with a black plastic cap) at either end. Two white tags are stuck around the cable, printed on these in black is “FIBERNET / FC/PC”.

Part 3: Key, gold in colour, on a silver-coloured short metal chain and ring, fits all six locks on the cabinet.
