Description
Chandler & Price 'new style' 10x15 platen printing press.

Metal Chandler & Price printing press. At the front of the object, a rectangular ink fountain sits at the top above a silver metal ink disk which is circular in shape and fixed to an ink table holder. In the centre of the ink fountain, a metal plaque with “THE CHANDLER & PRICE CO / CLEVELAND OHIO U.S.A” engraved onto it has been bolted above a knob. To the side of the ink fountain, an ink plate bevel gear and ratchet extends from the ink table holder. A square counter can be found next to this. The numbers set into the counter are set to read “02148”.

Underneath the disk, there is a chase clamp with “PAT APRIL 12 01” embossed onto it. Beneath this is the chase bed, and platen. The rollers of the press and the treadle have been removed. “CHANDLER & PRICE” is embossed onto the axel which extends across the object. Two prongs extend forward from the body of the object. Holes have been drilled into them signifying where the feed board would be attached. “1041/AA” has been embossed onto the mount for the feed table. At the front of the body, “1008 A II” has been engraved.

The proper right-hand side of the object is taken up by a large flywheel which is attached to the body of the press by a rotating shaft. A textile guard has been attached to the front of the flywheel. It is circular in shape and has been painted with concentric circles of white, yellow, red, and blue. Behind the wheel there is long throw off lever which protrudes above the top of the wheel, “1907 A / V” is engraved.

At the back of the object there is a foot treadle at the bottom with “CHANDLER & PRICE” embossed onto it. The back is open, and the inner mechanisms of the press are visible. At the top, fixed to the back of the ink fountain, there are a series of 11 knobs. Above the dials, “CHANDLER & PRICE” has been embossed into the metal.

On the left side of the press, there is a large gear, a smaller wheel, and a lever attached to the body. The spokes on the wheel are embossed with text reading “MINNEAPOLIS / PAT’D / 1-26-15 2-15-16 / HORTON MFG CO”. On the arm of the lever, “B17 / 16 15 N” has been embossed.
