Computer [IBM 5150].

Part 1: Cream coloured computer monitor for IBM computer. The front face of the computer has a glass screen set into it alongside two black dials with symbols printed onto them in white. In the top right, next to the screen, there is a plate with “IBM / Personal / Computer / Display” printed onto it in black. At the top of the monitor, a series of holes in a grid shape have been cut into the casing to allow for ventilation.

At the back of the monitor, “IBM / 5151” is printed onto a metal plate in the top corner. “Manufactured for / IBM / Armonk, New York / Model 5151002 / EDP Equip / 50Hz 0.2A / 220-240V~ 50W / S/N / MADE IN TAIWAN / RHINELAND / geprufte / Sicherheit” is printed in black onto a silver label adhered in the centre of the back. Under the ‘S/N’ text, “1208753” is engraved. Two black cables extend from the bottom of the monitor at the back. One of the cables has a silver metal attachment and “80C HIGH-RISE / RJ AWM E69326 STYLE 2464 VW-1SC 80C HI-RISE” printed along the cable. The second has a black plastic attachment with “I-SHENG /IS-011” embossed on it.

Underneath, the monitor is supported by four rubber feet which prop the body of the object up allowing for ventilation through the series of cut out strips in the plastic base panel. The object is held together by screws. A white sticker with “SER. NO. / MFD:” printed in black next to “1208753 / September 1984” which has been stamped in blue ink. Underneath this sticker, “B6 2/85” has been scratched into the surface of the plastic. A yellow strip of stickers with black text printed on it in various foreign languages reading “VORSICHT / ES SIND KEINE VOM / … / PRECAUCION / NO HAY PARTES QUE PUEDAN / … / ATTENZIONE / NON CI SONO COMPONENTI CHE / … / CAUTION / THERE ARE NO USER / OR FIELD SERVICEABLE / COMPONENTS. / DO NOT OPEN / COVERS UNDER ANY / CIRCUMSTANCES. / ATTENTION / IL N’Y A PAS DE COMPOSANTS / …”.

Part 2: Grey IBM 5150 computer hard drive with cream front panel. In the left corner there is a metal plate with “IBM / Personal / Computer” printed on it can be seen. Under this, are a series of ventilation holes. To the right of this, there are two black ports with small red lights on their left-hand side. “A” and “B” have been embossed as identifiers. Win the back corner of the right-hand side panel of the hard drive, there is a black box containing a red switch with “On / Off” printed next to it. The hard drive sits of two raised disks which are adhered to the bottom. 'E - 2 / 00229940" is engraved into the bottom of the unit.

At the back of the hard drive, a silver ventilation grate is cut into the object. in the top left corner, a silver maker’s plate which has “IBM / 5150” printed onto it is attached. A blue and yellow sticker with “TUV / RHEINLAND / G S / geprufte / Sicherheit” printed on it. Below this, a plate with “Manufactured by EDP Equip. / IBM Corporation / Armonk, / New York / Made in USA / Model No. 5150 / Auxiliary / power to: 5151 / 50/60 Hz / 220-240 V~ / 230 W / 1.4 A” printed on it is fixed to the unit. Below this, two power supply inlets are set into the hard drive. A barcode with “S/N_0229940” is adhered vertically. “HI / POT / OK 27” is printed in white onto the unit next to s series of ports for cables. “Keyboard / Cassette” is printed above a port with two circular receptors.

Part 3: Full QWRTY keyboard for IBM 5151 computer. The keyboard is cream with grey and white keys printed with their function. In the top left corner, “IBM / Personal / Computer” has been printed onto a square silver plate. At the top corner of each side of the keyboard, a knob with a flat handle can be found. When the knobs are turned, a short bar is pushed out of the back enabling the keyboard to be propped up at an angle. On the underside of the keyboard, four cork adhesive circles have been attached. A black coiled cord with “IBM” embossed onto the connector end extends from the back edge of the keyboard.

Part 4: Black power cable for IBM 5151 computer. The cable has a three-pronged New Zealand style wall adapter at one end with “EARTH” engraved into the straight metal prong at the bottom. “6A / 250V / 68-1-095 / Electricord / S/86 / GARDENA, CA. U.S.A” is embossed onto the adaptor head. At the other end of the cord there is a fixture with “INSERT / TO LINE” embossed on the front face. “5A / 250 / PEC” is embossed on the underside. At the front of the attachment, there are three holes and the embossed text “PEC / 7. / 107-2”. A textile label has been tied to the cord and has black printed text reading “I.B.M. NO. 6952311 / EC LEVEL 338739B / DATE OF INSPECTION ------ / PACIFIC ELECTRICORD CO.”.

Part 5: White cardboard box with a barcode sticker attached to the top. The sticker is printed with “MXO-0231D-03 / BNU-0006221 / MX-231D MONO GRAPHICS, WYSE” in black. The top of the box folds into itself to close.

Part 6: IBM motherboard comprised of electrical components set onto a green board. At the side, the is a piece of silver metal screwed to the board.
