Description
Air New Zealand In-Flight Bag.

White faux-leather bag. The bag is small with a flat bottom which tapers upwards, forming a triangular profile. A metal zip is set into the top of the bag and "R" has been engraved into both sides of the tongue. On each side of the zip, a white handle has been attached along the top edge of the bag. "[TEAL logo] AIR NEW ZEALAND" is printed on the front face of the bag in green.
Brief History
TEAL, National Airways Corporation (NAC) and later Air New Zealand produced travel bags from the beginnings of their operation to convey branding, commemorate anniversaries, introduce new aircraft, or celebrate inaugural routes flown. This miniature bag was gifted to the donor as a child by her grandparents who had flown internationally with Air New Zealand in the 1970s. It features the Maroro designed for Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL) to associate the airline with the Pacific Ocean. When TEAL changed its name to Air New Zealand in 1965 it kept the Maroro as part of its branding, appearing on aircraft until around 1982. The design of the Maroro or 'flying fish' is credited to William ‘Bill’ Haythornthwaite and George Moore.
