Brief History
The Sega Master System was an 8-bit game console, launched in New Zealand in the late 1980s. In 1990 it was followed by the 16-bit Mega Drive, known as the Genesis in America.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released in 1992, a year after the first game in the series. Where the Sega consoles were developed to compete with Nintendo consoles, Sonic was developed to compete with Nintendo’s Mario games series and became Sega’s flagship game series.
