The handlebars are attached to a forked hydraulic system which extends down and connects with the front wheel. A large circular headlight is attached at the top of the forks, between the handle bars. Text embossed on the outer clear casing reads “TOP / 12V 21.5W/15W/1.9W / E6 / 10 / A 02 WCR-DS 01 PL 0848 JUTE ALO 16 M-D E6 0848 SAE HL 17 DOT M P”. Below this, there is a black plastic fender fixed over the wheel which is connected on an axel fixed between the two hydraulic forks. A brake calliper with a coiled white line printed on it is fixed on the proper right side of the fork near the axel. There is a rotor, break line and break disk attached here as well. Spokes radiate from the centre to the black rim of the wheel onto which “1.85x18” has been engraved. A rubber tire onto which “NYLON RIM: 1.85 ROTATION / 48P / 6PR / LOAD RANGE C TUBE TYPE / MAX. LOAD 180 kg (395 lbs) AT 280 kPa (40 psi) COLD / JOURNEY REINFORCED / WD 2.75-18 P918-06” has been fitted. A metal valve with rubber cap protrudes from the rim. The tyre is wide and has a deep tread.

The body of the motorcycle has a large storage tank at the front which opens on a hinge towards the back of the motorcycle. The top of the storage tank and the lower section of the body has been finished with Janine William’s ‘Te Wai Ōrea’. A matte black panel runs through the centre of the body. Behind the storage tank, at the back of the bike, there is a leather seat which hinges open towards the back of the bike. Beneath the seat, there is a cavity for the motorcycle’s battery within the frame. An orange cable extends into this space to connect with the battery. Beneath this cavity, on the proper right side, there is a metal plate with “EARLY ADOPTER 045/100 / MADE IN WELLINGTON” engraved on it. On the lefthand side of the bike, a retractable stand to support the motorcycle in an upright position is fixed to the body.

The rear wheel of the motorcycle is connected to the body between two shock absorbers and fixed on an axel. A black plastic fender is attached over the upper back of the wheel. At the back of it, there is a red reflector attached to the fender below a black number plate with “Streetdog / FTM / MOTION” embossed on it in silver. A brake calliper with a coiled white line printed on it is fixed on the proper right side near the axel. There is a rotor, break line and break disk attached here as well. Spokes radiate from the centre to the black rim of the wheel onto which “1.85x18” has been engraved. A rubber tire onto which “WD 90/90-18 / 57P / 6PR / LOAD RANGE 0 TUBE TYPE / MAX. LOAD 230 kg (507lbs) AT 280 kPA (40psi) COLD / JOURNEY / RIM: 2.15 / REINFORCED / […]” has been fitted. A metal bar extends around the front of the tire, a passenger foot peg on either side of the bike. in the centre of the wheel, on the left hand side ”[text] / SIA72V3000WN30701 0610037” is printed in white.

Brief History
The Streetdog is a moped class electric vehicle designed and assembled in Pōneke/Wellington for urban based commuting where speeds do not exceed 50kph. This vehicle is an 'early adopter,' one of one-hundred produced during the New Zealand company's second round of production. It is number 45 and was acquired by MOTAT for the Road Transport Collection because of its Kiwi ingenuity story, with much of its componentry being sourced locally. The company emerged in 2020 when founders Luke Sinclair, Kendall Bristow and Saskia Thornton came together and trialled a prototype battery on a BMX bicycle.

The vehicle has a range of 80km, 30 litres of lockable storage, touch-screen display, an alarm-activated wheel lock, and a proprietary LG 21700 li-ion battery which can be charged by removing it and plugging it into the wall. It can take up to two riders and be driven on a car license. As of 2024, the company are now based in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton and are working on an 80kph version.

This Streetdog also features a custom body artwork by Janine Williams (Ngāti Paoa, Ngāti Whātua ki Kaipara) called Te Wai Ōrea, in response to MOTAT's location and the importance of whenua in the Western Springs Precinct, which the artist describes below,

Ancient waters sustaining mana whenua for generations followed by the urban sprawl & growing local community as our modern city developed. The graphic interpretation is designed to remind the viewer that the mauri of this important water source lives, moves, evolves & is being strengthened by our continuous awareness & conservation efforts. Nutrient rich, rising from the aquifer below through layers of whenua to reveal its face, reveal its importance to us. A reminder that we must do the same & continue as kaitiaki for generations to come.
