Britain's new airliner.
First impressions have now been released of Britain's new big Jet Airliner the Vickers VC 10. BOAC have just signed a £60 million (168 million dollars) contact for 35 of these jetplanes and have an option on a further 20. They are for use in 1963 on the Airlinne's World Routes including the North Atlantic.
Designed by the maker of the world famous Viscount Turbo-prop the VC 10 can carry up to 150 passengers. It is Britain's biggest ever civil transport. The rear-mounted engines reduce jet engine noise and vibration in the passenger cabin to a minimum. The key features of the VC 10 are its outstanding take-off performance and operational economy. The engines are four Rolls-Royce Conways specially developed for the aeroplane.
