Description
Air Force blue No.1 tunic with collar and lapel. There are 4 brass buttons down the front of the right jacket flap. There are 4 corresponding button holes on the left flap. There is a pleated breast pocket on either side. They have a cover flap with a scalloped edge. Each cover flap is secured with a brass button and 2 hidden snaps. Below the right breast pocket is a horizontal opening for an interior pocket. There is a side pocket on each flap. The pockets have a cover flap and are secured with a brass button each. The brass buttons are decorated with a crown and a bird in flight. Above the left breast pocket is a pilot's badge - it is embroidered with the letters 'NZ' surrounded by a laurel wreath, topped with a crown and flanked by a set of wings. Below the badge is the navy blue/red/light blue ribbon of the 1939-45 Star.
On the sleeve cuffs, are 2 stripes of black/blue/black. At the waist is a blue wool belt that is attached at the back. There is a brass belt buckle and the belt has one set of 2 holes on it. There is also a snap to secure the belt tip. Inside, the jacket has a blue cotton lining. The sleeves are lined with a cream-coloured cotton with brown and blue stripes. At the collar is a tab (probably used to hang the jacket).
