The McLaren M6BGT was Bruce's first attempt at designing and building a sports saloon car. Finished late in 1969, it was used on the road in and around London England for 9 months or so until Bruce's tragic accidental death. The chassis and all running gear is standard M6B Can Am, with the addition of the glass fibre saloon top made to Bruce's design by Specialised Mouldings of London. To prevent it being sold to America and to ensure its finishing up in New Zealand as Bruce would have wished, Bruce's wife, Pat, Denny Hulme, and Phil Kerr, the current manager of McLaren Racing, bought the car by clubbing together and then arranging for its display at the Museum of Transport and Technology, Auckland, under the direction of Bruce's father Mr. Les McLaren. In November the car will tour New Zealand under the sponsorship of Broadlands Finance Ltd. The photograph, taken in England, graphically illustrates the futuristic lines of the car. Label
