Description
Photographs show activities at the Brooklands Flying School, air shows, car racing,Hawker Cignet, Vickers Virginia, Vickers Victoria, Fairey 3F, Vickers Vimy, Bristol Fighter, D.H.50, and unknown personalities.
L.F.P.Taylor joined the Brooklands Flying School in late 1929 as a student pilot and later studied aviation adminstrative studies there.
Brooklands Aviation is regarded the cradle of British Aviation and today is the home for Brooklands Museum a major aviation and motoring museum. During World War 1 Brooklands closed to motor racing and Vickers Aviation Ltd set up a factory in 1915 and it became a major centre for the construction of military aircraft. When WW2 broke out in 1939 and once again the site was turned over to aircraft production. Brooklands also became one of Britian's first airfields in 1908. The airfield was badly bombed 1n 1940 and many workers killed. After the war Vickers continued with the building of many aircraft types. Today Brooklands museum houses many historic aircraft including Vickers types and the Concorde G-BBDG .
