Description
Six shearers, each in separate booth, with attendant judges watching and marking. Seven assistants, below stage, collecting fleece and preparing for baling. In front of stage, six men in white coats, seated, and observing shearers. Signage above the stage reads: "Sponsors","Borthwicks" "Caltex" and "Sponsors". Underneath this are three signs: "Fraser Park", "Golden Shears Championship" and "1963". Below the stage are three signs that read: "Promoted by Wairarapa Federated Farmers", "Golden Shears" and a sign partly obscured for a new Wolseley model. Behind the shearers are the official numbers and names (only one can be seen clearly) and a number that probably indicates the number of sheep that have been shorn. There is a large crowd watching the shearing from in front of the stage. The event is being held outside.
