Ernest James Schofield designed this vehicle and had it built. Ernest also founded General Motors car dealer Schofield Motors and invented farm gates and cropdusting equipment. Schofield had been a Rugby League player and had moved to England before WWI. During that war, he worked there for Lord Nuffield (Morris Motors) where he designed a device that turned a Lee Enfield rifle into a machine gun. His son was still living and running an engineering works in Penrose in the early teens of this century. This son, James, had this device plus the original proof-of-concept Meccano model of the Schofield Tank when I talked to him c2002.
