Description
P Hopper; a wooden hopper from a P class wagon. Rectangular box with one of the short sides angled outward at the top. Metal framing holds the wooden planks. Various brackets to attach crane for moving.
Brief History
Fifty one of the 'P' 2 series wagons were constructed by New Zealand Railways between 1912 and 1922. The Waro to Whangarei, P hopper wagons were used for transporting coal and, in more recent times, limestone to Portland Cement Works. The three P hoppers in the MOTAT Collection were part of a set fitted to the deck of a 4 wheel flat-top wagon.
