Description
Rectangular silver marble effect machine, stands on 4 short legs. Angular tray with lip attached to front that has mechanism next to it. Start (black) and stop (red) buttons next to tray. Has flat top with mechanism on top that includes 2 circular 'dials'. Lip around edge of top. Top is hinged at back. Front left has a vented door in with black handle. Foot machanism on right front. Makers logo attached to front "LUDLOW".
Grey rectangular box is attached to back of the machine, makers plate attached: "LUDLOW TYPOGRAPH CO. / CHICAGO, ILL., U.S.A.". Round drum (crucible) is located in the top/middle portion of the back of the machine, it is connected to a motor. Crucible has attached makers plate: "CRUCIBLE NO M13470 / LUDLOW TYPEOGRAPH CO. / CHICAGO, ILL., U.S.A."
Black small rectangular indicator meter attached to back by hose and wires, face of meter includes indicators labelled "MOUTHPIECE" and "CRUCIBLE", also has two red lights and 2 dials attached, with two protuding rods coloured yellow at bottom. Makers plate attached to meter is partially illegible: "PARTLOW CONTROL / MODEL MM-2-2-J431 /.../ SERIAL NUMBER / 442450".
On right side of machine is a handle and two makers plates, also an instruction plate on the underside of the top on the right.
Makers plate 1: "A.M. SATTERTHWAITE & CO. LTD / CHRISTCHURCH (H.O.) / AUCKLAND, HASTINGS / WELLINGTON, DUNEDIN / SOLE DISTRIBUTORS FOR / NEW ZEALAND"; Makers plate 2: "LUDLOW / TYPOGRAPH MACHINE / MANUFACTURED AND SOLD BY / LUDLOW TYPOGRAPH CO. / 2032 CLYBOURN AVE., CHICAGO, U.S.A. / SERIAL NO. M16484 / PATENTED IN U.S.A. / AND OTHER COUNTRIES".
There are several pieces sitting on top of the machine connected by chains. There is a large chain driven motor on the end of a pipe that used to stand parallel to the top of the machine. marked "MARGAGH / FEEDER NO 43538 / MARGAGH MFG CO. N.Y.".
