Daguerreotype showing a portrait of a young seated woman with dark centre parted hair that has been set into rows of small curls.
The image does not show her legs only to where her hands are placed in her lap. She is wearing a gown with a lace collar at the neck and lace showing at the ends of her sleeves. The dress has a darker band of a different material at the shoulder and just above the wide ends of the sleeve on the right. There is a third darker band of a different material just below her hand on the skirt. She is wearing a metal chain around her neck that is long enough to end under her right hand which has a ring on her third finger. The woman is looking to the right side of the viewer. Behind her right shoulder is the carved curved top the chair in which she is seated.
Encased in a dark brown leather case with a black leather spine and thin metal edges, hinged, with a brass plate that latched onto a spike on the upper edge. The inside of the case has black coloured plush lining. The oval image is within a gold coloured mat with writing in the upper left corner. The writing says W. H. Kent 147 Oxford St. The rectangular outer edge is metal impressed with what looks like a repeating leaf pattern.
