Description
Pedestrian Crossing Activation Button.
Red, rectangular metal activation for a Pedestrian Crossing. In the centre of the object, on the front, there is a circular button that is bronze in colour. "PEDESTRIAN / PUSH BUTTON" has been embossed onto an attached piece of white metal above the button. Under the button, a white sheet of metal with "PRESS BUTTON / FIRMLY AND WAIT / FOR / "CROSS NOW" / SIGNAL" embossed in black has been screwed.
At the back of the object, there is a protruding metal casing extending from the centre of the object. a short black wire which has been cut runs out of this casing through a circular hole. Two yellow metal fixtures have been attached above and below the central casing. The fixtures are arched in shape and have a metal crossbar and a are designed to fit around the pole of a crossing lights.

These pedestrian crossing activation buttons were standard across the then Auckland City Council areas. Either Enamel wording or later engraved plastic. Recall using these well into the 1980s if not 1990s in the CBD before upgrades took place.
