Description
Box for LOMAK head unit. Square, brown cardboard box. "lomak / LIGHT OPERATED MOUSE AND KEYBOARD / 1 x lomak head unit" is printed in blue and black on the top of the box. "1 x lomak head unit" is printed on the lip of the lid.
Brief History
Mike Watling began prototyping his concept for a light operated keyboard in 1982, initially developing a pair of glasses with the light source mounted in the centre which would activate sensors in the keyboard, allowing the user to work with a computer using head movements only.
This box is for a head unit, a headband with a mount for a pointer unit containing the light source, which was part of the final LOMAK product, launched in May 2005 following two decades of development work.
The LOMAK (Light Operated Mouse and Keyboard) is an assistive technology device developed in New Zealand for people with a physical disability who cannot use a standard computer keyboard or mouse.
