Description
Half tester bed in late Victorian style, made of New Zealand native timbers. Constructed by James Morris in Auckland during the 1880s. Bed has semi-circular bed end and slightly curved bed head with two posts and semi-circular canopy. Canopy has wooden railing around rim for curtains. Curtains are a bright yellow material and tied to posts with wooden chains. Canopy has draping backboard, elaborately carves with a vine motif and clam shell in centre. Entire frame is decorated with multiple inlays of different New Zealand timber, creating geometric designs. Foot board has small union jack inlays in far left and far right corners.
